Video Production

What began as a method to demonstrate items we are reviewing turned into a hobby itself! It is very tempting to produce experimental videos instead of turning our attention to other hobbies - please try to bear with us - WE ARE ADDICTED!

Well, as you may detect, most of our early videos are experimental; we stressed the technology rather than developing original content. But hey - that is ok because practice makes perfect!

This page provides details in how the early videos were made. We demonstrate how to use the editing software (Vegas Movie Studio Platinum Edition available at Sony), and the filming techniques are explained.

We have been using "CamStudio" to obtain the video captures from our computer. It is a very useful program, so if you wish to make software demos, try it out by downloading it here. It is freeware, but we will make a contribution to the author(s). . . Thanks CamStudio! For a video tutorial on how to use CamStudio, click here.

Infinite Baby
Teletubbies are Messing with my Baby!
Something Scary in the Air
These were my first true chroma key videos. In this demo video, I demonstrate how to use green fabric to produce the chroma key effect. In these early videos, I experimented with different green fabrics. I did not have the green muslin chroma key backdrop at the time, but the fabrics that I did use actually worked out pretty well.

My Wife Has Special Powers
In "My Wife has Special Powers", a baby appears out of thin air. This demo video will show how this was done.

Big Guns
A fun video to make because we added in some video we "shot" using some of my friend's (Thanks Jim!) guns. The technique used to make guns appear "out of thin air" is explained in the making of "My Wife has Special Powers". This demo explains using the pan/crop feature to give still pictures the appearance of moving. Also, the insertion of text into your videos is explained.

UFO Baby
This was my first experiment with chroma key - using green screen to eliminate part of the ufo picture and using the pan event option to create the illusion of a ufo flying over my son's crib.

Baby Likes a Fight
This video was edited to produce a split-screen effect. Use the "Track Motion" option under "Tools". The demonstration video shows how the split screen was made. Additionally, a "laugh track" of my son was inserted to present the illusion that he was laughing while watching a bloody fight.

Just Eat It Baby
This was our first official video. It is simply a video of my son eating - but the video was speeded up. The "Just Eat It" Weird Al track was inserted, and the video was adjusted to match the length of the song.

Again, the quality here is not the best, but it does get the information across... this demonstration video was made together with our first demo video.

Alien Pictures

This was our first unofficial video; before this video was made, all previous compilations were all of family photos. This video was very simply made, but turned out to be very popular! The video features many strange "alien" photos, and a cool Led Zeppelin soundtrack was inserted. I don't know how well this would have done without the soundtrack - not very well I expect!

The quality of the demonstration video below, sadly, is not very good. Yes - we were still experimenting with focus, etc. at this point ;)
