I smoked for 27 years before I quit in 2002. The methods I tried in the past were unsuccessful. Finally, I used the method described here, and it worked!! First things first - you need motivation to quit. For me, I had health concerns, and I wanted to save money. These days, the cost of smoking should be motivation enough. Expensive!
Do you have motivation? GOOD! So now let me tell you - this method is Easy and (almost) Painless!! I am sure the tobacco companies don't want you to read on - but please do!! Using this method, I smoked all I wanted. Whenever I wanted a smoke, I would just light up
(providing I was in an area that permitted smoking). I was even able to go into smoke-filled bars using this method without any discomfort! Yea - a beer or a cup of coffee go great with cigarettes, right?! As I stated above, I tried many methods before, including the patches and gums, but they did not work. So what is my secret? Simple - I slowly reduced the amount of nicotine I took in by changing the brand of cigarette I smoked. Specifically, I changed brands such that the amount of nicotine was 0.2 mg less than the previous brand. So I went out and bought a carton of a brand with 0.2 mg less nicotine, smoked all those cigarettes in the carton, and then switched brands again. I continued this method until I ended up smoking the brand with the least amount of nicotine on the market - and then just quit after that carton was gone! Sure it took some time to go through all those different brands, but by the time a couple of months went by, I was ready to quit. Try this method - IT WORKS!! You can modify it any way you feel comfortable - for example, reduce the amount of nicotine by 0.1 mg instead of 0.2 mg. Also, you may opt to smoke several cartons before you change brands - DO WHAT IS COMFORTABLE FOR YOU!!! I have compiled a list of cigarette brands below, sorted by nicotine amount (low to high); use it to determine the brands you need to buy in order to quit. The file is in Excel format, and you can download it by Clicking Here. As stated above, I quit cold turkey after smoking the brand with the lowest amount of nicotine. What I then did to keep my mind off of cigarettes was to . . . PLAY GAMES! This was a very good means for me to finally quit the habit. You may choose to do the same, or choose some other activity to keep your mind off of the coffin nails. I would sugest weight lifting or running or some other more intensive sport like scuba diving or kung fu. If you would like to just play games, I would suggest playing Tradewars - it is an online strategy game that you play with others in real-time. It requires some concentration on the game, which means you will spend so much less time thinking of filling your lungs with tar and nicotine.
